July 1997-May 2000, first deputy commander of the North Caucasus military district.
May 2000-Feb. 2003, commander of the North Caucasus military district.
February 26, 2003, appointed presidential adviser (part of the Presidential Administration), with a focus on Cossack issues.

Awards: Hero of the Russian Federation (conferred on December 3, 1999)
Married, two children.
