STEPANKOV, Valentin Georgyevich
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources
Born Sept. 17, 1951 in Perm.
Graduated in 1976 from Perm University Law School.
Served in the Soviet Armed Forces, then was staff member of a military unit newspaper.
1975-1977, worked at a district prosecutor's office, later in the Perm region Prosecutor's Office.
1977-1981, public prosecutor in the town of Gubakha (Perm region).
1981–1983, instructor of the Perm Region the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (SPSU) Committee's administrative department.
1983-1987, public prosecutor of Perm city.
1988–1990, public prosecutor of Khabarovsk territory.
1990 – 1991, first deputy of the USSR General Prosecutor.
March 1991-1993, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.
People's Deputy of the Russian Federation. Member of the Russian Supreme Soviet.
On October 5, 1993 by the RF President Decree relieved of his duties for his anti-Yeltsin’s position during the conflict between the President and the Russian Supreme Soviet.
October 5, 1993- July 1995, private lawyer.
July 1995-January 1996, vice governor of the Perm Region.
In December 1995 elected State Duma deputy from Bereznikovsky electoral district, Perm Region.
In April 1997 elected chairman of the board of directors of Permskiye Motory.
Was a head of the Agency of Legal Information law firm in Khabarovsk.
June 27, 2000 - April 2003, deputy presidential envoy for the Trans-Volga federal district.
April 2003 – May 2004, deputy secretary of the Security Council.
June 2004, appointed deputy minister of natural resources.
Divorced. Has one son (Stepankov, Denis Valentinovich, born 1977) and one granddaughter.
