SOKOLOV, Alexander Sergeyevich
Minister of Culture and Mass Media of the Russian Federation

Born Aug. 8, 1949 in Leningrad.

Graduated in 1967 from the Gnesinykh School of Music;  major: violin.  Received Masters (1981) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees from the history-theory department of the Moscow Conservatory.

2001-2004, dean of the Moscow State Conservatory (Tchaikovsky Conservatory).
Mar. 2004-present, minister of culture and mass media of the Russian Federation.
