SHERSTYUK, Vladislav Petrovich
Aide to the Secretary of the Security Council

Born Oct. 16, 1940 in Novoplastunovskaya Stanitsa, Krasnodar territory.

Graduated 1966 from Moscow State University with a degree in physics; 1972 from the Dzerzhinsky Higher School of the KGB.

1966, joined the intelligence service; worked in the 8th Main Directorate (communications security) and the 16th Directorate (electronic intelligence) of the KGB.

1994-1995, his work during the first military conflict in Chechnya proved a big boost to his career, as the performance of the Federal Agency of Government Communications and Information (FAPSI) group under his command received high praise from the government.
1995, appointed head of the Main Directorate of Electronic Intelligence of FAPSI.
Dec. 7, 1998 appointed head of FAPSI.
Dec. 24 1998-present, chairman of the interdepartmental commission for information security of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
June 1999-May 2004, first deputy secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council.
May-Sept. 2004, deputy secretary of the Security Council.
Sept. 2004-present, aide to the secretary of the Security Council.

Military rank: Colonel-general.

Honors and Awards: Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1975), Order of the Red Star (1988), Order For Services to the Fatherland, IVth class (1996).
Winner of State Prize of the U.S.S.R. (1978) and of the Russian Federation (1996) in science and technology.

Married, has a son.
