Shantsev, Valery Pavlinovich
Governor of Nizhny Novgorod
Born June 29, 1947 in the village of Susanino, Kostroma region.
When he was 7 years old his family moved to Moscow. Received his secondary education at school # 743
1966 - graduated from Moscow Air Technical School and was enrolled in the Army. There he served as an aircraft mechanic for Air Defense in Sakhalin
1968-1975 - worked at the “ Salut” radio manufacturing plant as a master’s assisstant, then he was head of a production support office
1971- he graduated from the evening department of the Moscow University of Radio Technology, Electronics and Automatic Control Engineering. He later graduated from the Academy of National Economy.
1971 - he joined the Communist Party and since 1975 he worked in party bodies – as deputy leader of the Party Committee of “Salut” plant, as an instructor, as deputy head of industry and trasnportation department of the Party Committee of Perovo disctrict, as an instructor of Moscow Party Committee.
1980 - became deputy head of the machinist's sector of Moscow Party Committee, governed by Boris Yeltsin
1986 - promoted to head of the Party Committee of Perovo district of Moscow
1987-1993 - elected as a deputy to the Moscow Legislative Assembly
August 1991 - became commercial manager of the “Dinamo” hockey club. At the same time he was the deputy head of the Moscow branch of the Communist Party
July 1994 - appointed prefect of Moscow South Administrative district
June 16, 1996 - elected vice-mayor under Yury Luzhkov
December 19, 1999 - re-elected vice-mayor, responsible for economic policy and city development
January 2000 - he became first deputy of the Moscow city government
August 8, 2005 - appointed Nizhny Novgorod Regional Governor by the regional Legislative Assembly
