Born Aug. 23, 1955 in Kazakhstan
1977 - graduated from the Rostov-on-Don State Pedagogical Iinstitute
Graduated from High Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (SPSU)
Was the secretary of U.S.S.R. Lenin Communist Youth Union (Komsomol) Committee of the Rostov-on-Don Pedagogical Institute.
1979-1988 - instructor of the Lenin District Committee of the CPSU, then the secretary, the first secretary of Rostov-on-Don Komsomol regional Committee.
May, 1988 - worked as the first secretary of the Railway district committee of the CPSU, Rostov-on-Don
1990-1993 - served as a People's Deputy of the Russian Federation, a member of the Soviet of Nationalities of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation.
Was a member of the Committee of the Supreme Soviet on questions of economic and property reform
1993-1996 - deputy head of the administration of Rostov region, advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation
1994-2001- deputy head of the organizational directorate of the Federation Council
April 2001- appointed to the Federation Council from the Republic of Khakassia
February 2002-present - chairperson of the Committee for Social Policy
Married, with a daughter.
Hobbies: martial arts, horseback riding.
