1986 - graduated from the Military Institute of the USSR Ministry of Defense
holds a candidate degree in philosophy
1995 - elected deputy to the State Duma of Russian Federation.
1995-1997 - deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for Science and Education
1997-1999 - member of the State Duma Committee for budget, taxes, banks and finances
December 4, 1996 - took part in election of the president of Marii-El. Received 56% of the vote
December 17, 2001 - elected President of the Republic of Marii-El with 58% of the vote
Married, with two sons.
