 Born Sept. 1, 1934 in the village of Setovka, Sovetsky district of the Altai territory.
1951-1954, studied at the Moscow State Institute of International relations (MGIMO)
1956-1958, studied at the Moris Torez Institute of Foreign languages in Moscow
1958 - graduated from the Timiryazev Academy of Agriculture. Speaks German, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian
1993-2002 - State Duma deputy
Jan. 2, 2002 - elected president of the Republic of Altai
Hobbies: classical music, gardening
