IVANOV, Anton Aleksandrovich
Chairman of the Higher Arbitration Court
Anton Ivanov (Антон Александрович Иванов) is the chairman of the Higher Arbitration Court and a close friend of Dmitry Medvedev.
The two attended Leningrad State University together and have co-authored law textbooks. He has more than 40 published works, though his speciality is human rights law.
He was born July 6, 1965 in Gatchina, Leningrad Region. From 1982 to 1987, he studied at Leningrad State Univeristy's Law Department specializing in jurisprudence. After receving his first degree, he continued on to graduate studies in the same department, where he wrote his dissertation on the "Right of Ownsership and Commodity-Capital Relations." He recevied the equivalent of a Juris Doctorate in 1991.
After graduation, worked as an assistant in the Department of Human Rights at St. Petersburg State University and as heead editor of the law journal, Jurisprudence. He went into business with his law school classmates, Dmitry Medvedev and Ilya Yeliseyev, founding the private law firm, Uranus.
From 1995, to 1997, he was an assistant professor of civil law at St. Petersburg State Univeristy.
In 1995, Ivanov worked as head of the legal department at limited liability company, "Soyuzkontrakt-Services"
From January 1997 to April 1999, he worked as head of the St. Petersburg Department of Justice, a branch of Russia's Ministry of Justice.
From 1999 to 2003, he was the head of the human rights faculty at St. Petersburg University and an associate professor in civil law.
In July 2004, he moved back into the business world as the First Deputy General Director of Gazprom-Media. In this position, he sat on the board of Ekho Moskvi radio, TNT-TV network and Television NTV.
On January 26, 2005, he was elected chairman Russia's Higher Arbitration Court.
He is single with no children.
