GROMOV, Alexei Alexeyevich

Born May 31, 1960 in Zagorsk (now Sergiev Posad), Moscow region.

1982 - graduated from the History Department of the Moscow State University with a major in Southern and Western Slavic studies
1982-85 - secretary of the USSR Consulate General in Karlovy Vary (Czechoslovakia)
1985-88 - attache at the USSR Embassy in Prague
1988-91 - third, then second secretary to the deputy foreign minister of the USSR
1991-1992 - first secretary of the General Secretariat of the Foreign Ministry of the USSR, then Russian Federation
1992-96 - consul, then adviser in the Russian Embassy in Bratislava (Slovakia)
1996-2000 - head of the Presidential Press Office
January 4, 2000 - appointed press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation

Speaks English, Czech, and Slovak

Married to Anna Vitalyevna Gromova, with two sons (Alexei and Danil).
