Born November 7, 1943 in Saratov.
1962 - graduated from Suvorov Military School
1965 - graduated from Leningrad S.M. Kirov Higher All-military Commanders School
1972 - graduated from M.V. Frunze Military Commanders Academy with honors.
1984 - graduated from the Military Academy of the General Headquaters
1994 - retired from Russian Military Forces.
1995 - appointed deputy minister of the Interior Affairs.
1995 - elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
January 2000 - elected governor of the Moscow region.
Married for the second time. Five children.
Hobbies: tennis, velotrack.
