Yelena Nikolayevna Baturina

Yelena Baturina (Елена Николаевна Батурина) was born March 8, 1963 in Moscow. Russia’s richest woman, she is the head of Inteco and Moscow Mayor, Yury Luzhkov’s, wife.
After graduating from high school, she began working at the Fraser plant, where her parents also worked. She soon left to take up a position as research associate at the Insitute of Economic Problems in Moscow. She later graduated from the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Institute of Management.
Baturina married Yury Luzhkov in 1991. In the same year, she set up Inteco, a corporation mainly comprising construction and plastics assets. Both Baturina and Luzhkov have been accused of corruption, due to the number of construction contracts granted to Inteco in Moscow during his tenure as city mayor. There have been a number of attacks on Inteco employees, including the murder of company lawyer, Yevgeny Savchenko, in 2005.
Baturina owns hotels in the Black Sea resort of Sochi and large amounts of land. Forbes magazine estimated Baturina’s wealth at $2.9 billion in March 2010. A keen horse rider, Baturina is president of the Equestrian Federation of Russia. She has two daughters, Alyona and Olga.
