Born November 9, 1952 in Kalinino village (now Stolypino), Baltay district of Saratov region
1977 - graduated from Saratov Institute of Agriculture.
1985 - graduated from the Moscow Cooperation Institute.
1992 - 1996- served as vice-major of Saratov city.
1993 - 1995 member of the Federation Council
April 15, 1996, appointed head of Administration of Saratov region by the decree of the President of Russian Federation.
September 1, 1996 - elected governor of Saratov region.
March 26, 2000 - re-elected governor for the second term with 67.39% of the vote
July 15, 2005 - appointed by President Vladimir Putin as Ambassdor to Belarus, but the appointment was rejected by Belarussian president Alexander Lukashenko
