KOTENKOV, Alexander Alexeyevich

Born Sept. 23, 1952, in the village of Bely, Krasnodar territory
1974 - graduated with honors from Rostov-on-Don Agricultural Machine-Building Institute
1988 - graduated from correspondence department of Lenin Military-Political Academy
1999 - graduated from the Law Department of the Lenin Military-Political Academy
1974-1975 - worked as a technological engineer at the Rubin plant in Rostov
July 1975-1988 - served in the army: for three years was commander of a tank platoon, then was deputy commander for political affairs of a tank battalion and a tank regiment. Served in the Transbaikal, North Caucasian, and Far Eastern Military Districts.
1988-1989 - deputy head of the political department of a troop unit in Birobidzhan
1989-1990 - people's deputy of the USSR from the Jewish Autonomous Region
1990-January 1992 - elected a people's deputy of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Vice-Chairman of the Committee of the Supreme Soviet for defense and security
January 1992 - deputy head of the state law department
May 1992 - December 1993 - head of the state-law department of the President
December 1992 - head of the interim administration on the territories of the North-Ossetian Republic and the Ingush Republic
December 1993 - December 1995 - elected to the State Duma from the PRES party list
December 1995 - February 1996 - deputy minister for nationalities and regional policy
January 10, 1995 - secretary of state, member of the representation of the Government in the Federal Assembly
February 7, 1996 - Presidential envoy to the State Duma
Published numerous research articles; drafted more than 30 legislative bills.
Hobbies: sailing; Vice-president of All-Russian Sailing Federation.
