Economy: Vologda Region is one of the developed industrial regions of Russia. The region is also characterized by a well-developed agroindustrial complex. Vologda Region is one of the most important producers of milk, meat and eggs in Russia. Tourism is also an important industry since the region is famous for its historical and cultural monuments.
The Russian Agricultural Bank (Rosselkhozbank) and the Vologda administration have signed a general cooperation agreement by which Rosselkhozbank will issue up to Rbs5 bln ($188.25 mln) worth of loans for local agribusinesses, private farming households and farms in 2007. The two parties will also develop a land mortgaging system and agricultural lending cooperative, as well as modernise and develop the network of agricultural consumer cooperatives and provide loans for cattle breeding, small agribusinesses and housing construction.
