Geography: Tver region is located in the central part of European Russia.  It borders on the Smolensk, Novgorod, Volgograd and Moscow regions.  The main rivers of the region are the Volga, Mologa, and Tvertsa.

Ethnic make-up:

Economy: Tver Region has the largest explored peat reserves in European Russia, a nd well-developed facilities for peat production and processing. There are also reserves of limestone, brick clay, quartz sand, crushed stone, and gravel, as well as production of brown coal, glassmaking sand, dolomite, and mineral pigments.  The region also has many mineral springs and a resort has been built around the well known Kashinka mineral waters.  There are other springs near Torzhok and Konakovo.
