Economy: Tambov's economy is primarily industrial and major industrial sectors include engineering, metalworking, and manufacturing agricultural equipment. Agriculture is a smaller, but still important economic sector. Mass agricultural production focuses on grains, potatoes and sugar beets.
In 2007, the Danish company Dan Invest intends to set up a farm on an area of 200 mln sq m to breed 300,000 pigs a year, harvest fodder and recycle production wastes. The board chairman of Dan Invest said his company hoped to be able to implement larger projects in the Tambov Region in the future.
