Geography: Stavropol Territory is located in southern European Russia in the central Caucasian foothills. It shares a border with Georgia and the republics of North Ossetia, Karbardino-Balkaria, Kalmykia, Dagestan, Ingushetia and Chechnya. Most of the region is covered by forest.

Economy: The economy has two main sectors - agroindustrial production and health-related tourism. Russia's oldest resort is located here and the region has many mineral springs as well as attractive scenery for tourists.
Promsvyazbank, ranked by the Central Bank among the country's top 30 banks, will open offices in Stavropol Territory and invest upwards of Rbs2 billion in 2007 (&3.5 million dollars). The bank considers the industrial and construction sectors and the Kavkazskiye Mineralnye Vody spa region in the Caucasus the most important for investment. The funds will be appropriated for mid- and long-term loan programmes of industrial companies, including their modernisation, and for factoring operations, notably for small and medium-sized businesses.
