Geography: The Nenets Autonomous Area borders the Komi Republic, Arkhangelsk Region, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area. The area extends along the Arctic coast, with shorelines on the White, Barents, and Kara seas.  It also includes Kolguev and Vaigan islands. The Pechora river flows through the territory.

Urban population: 62%, Rural population: 38%

Ethnic make-up:

Economy: Almost none of the land in the Nenets Autonomous District is agriculturally viable, so the economy is driven by fishing and industrial production.  Naryan-Mar is also the capital of the Timan-Pechora oil and gas area.  The area's oil fields are being developed, and gas and coal fields already have been explored, which contributes significantly to the economy.
