Economy: Mordovia has a mixed industrial and agricultural economy. The region is known for producing lamps and lightbulbs as well as ceramic tiles. Agriculture accounts for about 16% of Mordovia's GNP and it specializes in the grain crops, potatoes, vegetables and poultry farming.
In 2006, Mordavia's customs services transferred Rbs650 mln to the federal budget & the republic’s foreign trade turnover grew by 12% to $157.221 mln. 121 foreign businesses had trade and economic transactions in the republic last year, from 54 countries. Exports increased 9% or $63 million. About 75% of exports went to four countries:Kazakhstan, Britain, Ukraine and Italy. The main export goods were glow lamps and lighting fixtures, railway cars, aluminium, rubber goods, equipment and mechanical devices. Imports in the republic were up 16% to almost $93 mln. The leading importers were Germany (53%), Spain (6%), the Netherlands (7%), the United States (5%) and China (5%)
