Economy: Kirov is primarily an industrial region. Major industries include engineering, metalworking and chemical processing. Agricultural land occupies 27% of the region's territory and the most important crops are wheat, rye and barley and oats grown for fodder.
Kirov's foreign trade in 2006 exceeded $709.2 mln, up almost 70% year-on-year. The increment followed a 67% increase in exports and a 91% rise in imports. The balance of the region’s foreign trade remained positive and amounted to $555.4 mln. In 2006 Kirov traded with 84 foreign countries, with Non-CIS countries out-weithing CIS by a factor of 5.
