Geography: The Republic of Khakassia borders Kemerovo, the Altai Republic, and the Republic of Tuva. Several mountain ranges are located in the Republic, including the Kuznetsky Alatau and Western Sayan. The Yenisei and Abakan rivers also flow through the region.

Economy: The economy is driven by power production. The most powerful hydroelectric power plant in Russia, the Sayano-Shushensk Hydroelectric Power Plant is located in the Republic on the territory of the Sayansk industrial complex. The Abakan Thermal power plant and the Maina hydroelectric power plant are also major sources of power production. In addition, Khakassia is an important agricultural region specializing in raising beef and dairy cattle and sheep. Khakassia is also the largest wheat producer in Eastern Siberia.
