Ethnic make-up: includes Russians (86.8%), Ukrainians (6.7%), Belorussians (1.7%)

Economy: Because of the prevalence of rivers in the region, Amur provides 3/4 of hydroelectric power in the Russian Far East.  The area also has well-developed timber and food-processing industries.
