Party History
Russian Pensioners Party
was founded as a public political organization in 1997. It was reregistered
into a political party on December 1, 2001. During the 1st congress or RPP
there were 166 delegates present from 50 districts of Russian Federation.
In May and June of 2003 2nd
and 3rd congresses of the party took place. The main document of RPP’s program,
“Manifesto of Pensioners party”, was approved in 2001. Corresponding bill
“About rights of Russian citizens to revenues from usage of natural resources
of Russian Federation” was introduced in State Duma in 2003 by the party’s
chairman, Valeriy Gartung. He replaced Sergei Atroshenko, the party’s leader,
during the special convention on January 31, 2004, because the former leader
was given responsibility for the party’s loss in the electoral campaign in Duma
and withholding from leadership of the party.
Russian Party of Pensioners
participated in elections into Duma twice: in 1999 the party received about 2%
of the votes, in 2003 – slightly more than 3%.
In March 2004 a big
delegation of the party led by Gartung took part in convocation and conducting
of Congress of patriots of Russia, a left patriotic association of 15 parties
and 40 public organizations of constructive opposition.
