On Monday Russia celebrated the International Children’s Day. In cities across the country people took to the streets in an attempt to attract attention to the problems that Russian children are presently faced with. The events of the day did attract coverage in the media, but Russia’s national Channel One chose not to focus on the problems. Instead, it aired a segment on the aid that corporate sponsors and the channel itself were able to provide. The news segment dedicated to the celebration sounded more like a PR campaign for the donors than a recount of the children’s plight.
