January 29 marks the 150th anniversary of the renowned Russian writer Anton Chekhov. A host of events are set to take place throughout 2010 to celebrate and commemorate his timeless work. His plays are performed abroad as frequently as they are at home, and Chekhov’s ability to resonate with audiences outside Russia could prove vital in the struggle to preserve his legacy in the Crimean city of Yalta.
