Leonid Polezhayev (Леонид Константинович Пожелаев) was born January 30, 1940 in Omsk. An engineer by background, he has been governor of the Omsk region since 1991.
In 1965 he graduated from the Hydrotechnical faculty of the Omsk Agricultural Institute.
In 1986 - graduated from the Academy of Social sciences
November 11, 1991 - appointed governor of Omsk region.
December 17, 1995 - elected governor of Omsk region with 70% of the vote
September 5, 1999 and September 7, 2003, reelected to this post
March 12, 2001- appointed member of the presidium of the State Council by decree of the President of Russian Federation.
Married, with two sons.
